What is Matavitatau?

Matavitatau is a cultural association that has been active in Umbria since 2006, organizing activities that promote the region’s culture with an eye to increasing knowledge of our local historical and archaeological heritage.
Matavitatau provides a variety of opportunities to draw connections between the past and the present, including the study of local history, archaeology, and gastronomy. Roman cultural practices can be traced in our cooking and dining traditions, as well as in rites, popular beliefs, and linguistic expressions which have been handed down nearly unchanged through the centuries.  One of Matavitatau’s goals is the reaffirmation of our Latin roots that inform today’s Italian culture, as well as the promotion of classical Italian with its rich vocabulary and grammar.
